Wow, Yoel. What a mess. However, don’t be so quick to jump ship on the diploma. I would NOT take no for an answer. You have her signature, approving those hours in YJ, she is her own worst enemy. Right now, you are doing the right thing by talking to her and Youngman and including your parents. That said, that’s only your first line of defense.

Keep a good account of what is happening. You’ve got lots of ammunition, including her signature on that form. I imagine that you’ll find the IB handbook will probably back you up. Collect all the information you can about YJ, especially that which backs up your cause that it is NOT a religious organization. Then, if necessary, go above their heads. Don’t stop at these two – this is your IB diploma on the line.

Kind of reminds me of my high school… You either had to 1) Have a mother that was an “educator”, 2) Be a member of the Baptist clique or 3) a combination of the two. My mom wasn’t a teacher and I wasn’t Baptist so I got passed up for Student of the Year, Who’s Who, Red Jacket, etc… This woman of yours is way out of line. Out of curiosity, I wonder what her vendetta against you is about…

Which is precisely why Young Judaea isn’t a religious organization. At all. Ms Youngman approved it for Tal, Aryeh, Gabriel, and a whole bunch of other people who have used it in the past.

I’m pretty sure they told us, well at least Ms. Youngman, that religious groups did not count towards CAS, which is why no one volunteered with churches, temples, etc.

Why don’t you write a letter to the school principal–or, better yet, have your parents right one–explaining your situation and request that the principal speak to this Barnes bitch about your issue.
